In this talk, Dr. Alyssa Falcone will present works of literature written in the 16th Century that sought to erase and suppress the presence of women in famous Italian texts, such as Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron, for religious purposes. She will examine the reasons why these authors failed at this ambitious enterprise and how the phenomenon can be taught in conjunction with issues of gender and sexuality in today’s world.
